Preview is indicative — we confirm exact proportions when we quote. The base, the caps and the letters are printed in three filaments; the switches are Cherry MX-compatible hardware, fitted inside the base where nothing of them shows.

Letters and numbers, up to 8 of them — a name, a nickname, a year. Every character becomes a key with its own switch, so there are no spaces.

Every legend is at least mm thick, so the colour change comes out crisp.

The lettering is very fine — about mm thick.

It is printed onto the cap so nothing can break, but at this width the second colour gets hard to read on a key you look at up close. A heavier style, or the wide top with its bigger face, both help.

Wall finish

Ridges stand 0.5 mm proud of the wall, so a fluted piece is about a millimetre wider. They run straight up, which prints cleanly with no support.

Switch feel

These are real Cherry MX-compatible switches, and we fit them for you — of them on this design. They sit down inside the base, so nothing of the mechanism shows; the mount is the same 14 mm one a keyboard uses, so a cap or a switch can be swapped later.

Keycap shape

Every cap is flat on top, with the letter standing proud of that face, and every one is a hollow shell that comes down over its switch. What changes is the proportions: a wider top gives the letter more room, and a tall cap is a chunkier thing to press. The base's walls follow whichever you choose, so the same amount of key always shows. Nothing shorter than 5 mm is offered, and that is the switch's doing rather than ours — a cap has to reach down over a stem standing 9.8 mm off the plate. A genuinely low key needs a low-profile switch.

Key spacing

Fixed at 21.1 mm on the eyelet base — its walls are 1.5 mm at that spacing and would be nothing at keyboard spacing.

Divided spreads the keys just enough for a wall of the base to stand between every one, the way the eyelet base is built. Standard is what a keyboard uses: the caps share one open trough with the gap around them your fingers expect. Tight pulls them in until they nearly touch, which reads as one solid bar and shortens the piece.

How far the letters stand out of the cap's face — how much you feel under a thumb. The caps print face up, letter last, so this is a look rather than a cost: the printer changes filament once whatever you pick.

The base prints with a 14 mm cut-out per key in a 1.5 mm plate — the mount a Cherry MX switch is made for — so the switches clip in and the caps push on. Above each one the walls come up around the cap, leaving 3.4 mm of it showing; a press pushes it 3.6 mm, down into the base. Underneath there is a mm hole below every key. Push a pen up through one and the switch lifts out of its cut-out with the cap still on it — so a cap you want to change, or a switch that stops clicking, comes out without prising at anything and without reprinting the piece.
