Warm light flatters skin tones; cool light keeps blues and whites true.

Thin, tight lines through to broad, soft shading.

How hard the outlines are drawn over the shading.

Turn this up until the background is properly white — grey areas stay visible on the wall when the frame is switched off.

Black & white

50 keeps your photo's own tones. Push it up for punch — but heavy shadow blocks the backlight and dims the colour underneath.

Starts slightly lifted on purpose: an unlit sheet is seen by reflected light and prints darker than it looks on a screen.

The cut-out

Mark which part of the picture is the subject. Everything else only appears when the light comes on.

Remove a plain background

One press. Works inwards from the edges of the picture, so it needs the background to be a flat or evenly shaded colour.

Neither model reads drawings or anime art well — use the wand for those. The first run downloads the model plus a few megabytes of runtime. Your photo stays on your device.

Fix it by hand

Pick a tool, then work directly on the frame above.

Click a patch of background — a gap of sky between two people, say — and it goes. This is the one that reaches places the automatic pass cannot, because those patches touch no edge of the picture.

A little softness hides a rough cut-out.

Pull it in slightly to trim the halo of background colour around the subject.

Day → Sunset

The light can only tint your photo, not brighten it: the sky and light areas change colour, dark areas stay dark. A photo that shows the sky works best.

No open sky found in this photo, so the light will only warm it up. For the full sunset look, use a photo with the sky in it.
